Yesterday my dad and I finally bought my plane tickets. We had to do a bit of tweeking because for some reason the airlines were trying to have me switch airports in South Africa on my way home...Well we figured things out and everything is all set. I'm traveling completely alone. We had originally thought that the airlines would assign me a chaperone of sorts, but they aren't going to.
I leave on January 14 at 6:15 pm from JFK. I arrive in London at 6:35 am and then have an ELEVEN hour layover. Yeah, 11 hours. At 5:50 pm my flight leaves for Johannesburg, South Africa. I'll be getting in to Jo'Burg around 6:45 am. Lets see...I'm leaving on a Monday and it will be Wednesday by the time I get to South Africa. My flight leaves from Jo'Burg at noon, and I should be in Windhoek by 2:00 pm. Wednesday. Thats exectly 36 hours and 40 minutes of travel. Good thing I have a video ipod, and good thing I love running around in airports.

Oh KJ! You'll be fine. If there is any airport for an 11 hour layover, it's Heathrow. Just pace yourself, wander around all the fancy shops, and try some great british foods. Their candy and magazines are the best!
Just remember, the gates really are 45 minutes away from the main shopping area.
